Our client, a leader in musical equipment, approached LKK Design with a visionary challenge: to reimagine the professional music stand. The traditional stand is a single-function tool, often leading to a cluttered and disjointed performance setup with separate metronomes, lights, and accessories. The client needed a highly integrated, professional-grade solution that could consolidate these essential performance tools into a single, elegant system through intelligent modular design.

The primary goal was to design a multifunctional music stand that seamlessly integrated core performance accessories. The product required a dedicated intelligent accessory system featuring an adjustable metronome module, a glare-free lighting module, a multifunctional extension panel, and concealed storage. All this needed to be achieved without compromising on the stability, portability, and sleek aesthetics demanded by discerning professional musicians.

1. Design Research

Our process began with immersive design research, observing and interviewing professional musicians to understand their pain points. We identified that a cluttered performance environment negatively impacts focus and aesthetics. This insight directly informed our core concept: a unified modular ecosystem that creates a clean, simple, and comfortable playing environment, free from the distraction of mismatched accessories.

2. Industrial Design

Guided by a philosophy of ultimate minimalism, we ensured every detail contributed to a cohesive whole. The metronome, music light, extension board, and storage box were no longer standalone items but integrated modules that shared a unified design language. This approach avoids the visual noise of cluttered products and allows musicians to build a personalized stand that suits their specific instrument and scenario. The design is future-proof, with a platform ready for additional modular components.

3. Mechanical & Structural Design

Stability and versatility were paramount in the mechanical design.

• Stability: We utilized a robust metal bracket and metal shaft construction to ensure the stand remains steady during intense practice or performance.

• Modularity: The double-layer plastic music board features precisely reserved slots, making it lightweight yet highly expandable. Modules can be effortlessly attached, removed, and rearranged.

• Ergonomics & Portability: The stand height is infinitely adjustable to suit any instrument, from violin to tuba. Furthermore, an innovative folding mechanism allows the entire product to be collapsed to the size of the music board in under a minute—without tools or disassembly—dramatically enhancing portability and storage.

4. Prototyping and Testing

We engaged in an iterative cycle of prototyping and rigorous testing. Each prototype was evaluated for structural integrity, module connection security, ease of adjustment, and overall user experience. Through multiple rounds of refinement, we perfected the balance between sophisticated functionality, robust mechanics, and elegant form.
