ROE Visual, a global leader in creative LED display solutions, sought to push the boundaries of visual technology. They aimed to develop a next-generation LED panel for large-scale events, exhibitions, and landmark installations. The goal was to create a product that excelled not only in visual performance but also in operational efficiency, weight reduction, and user experience. LKK Design was chosen as the innovation partner to bring this visionary product to life through integrated industrial design, structural engineering, and manufacturing expertise.

The project targets were ambitious and focused on user needs:

1. Ultimate Slimness & Lightweight Design: Achieve a radical "slimming plan" through a skeletal structure that enhances aesthetics while minimizing weight without compromising strength.

2. Superior Human-Machine Interaction: Redefine the user experience by integrating the case handle with a quick-lock mechanism, enabling fast and intuitive assembly.

3. Seamless Visual Integrity: Ensure a clean, monolithic appearance when assembled, using isolated surrounding bosses and hard lines to avoid visual clutter and complexity.

4. Precision & Performance: Guarantee seamless splicing for any size configuration with less than 0.1mm error via CNC machining. Integrate low power consumption (30% energy saving) and a wide brightness range (200-1500 nits).

Design Research

Our team immersed themselves in the user's world. We deconstructed and personally installed/disassembled nearly every major LED display on the market. We sliced the entire process into nearly 100细分动作 (sub-actions), meticulously documenting every pain point. This deep dive revealed two core innovation principles:

  • Innovation Path 1: Reduce operational steps and eliminate repetitive actions.

  • Innovation Path 2: Minimize factors causing hesitation or friction throughout the workflow.

Industrial Design

Our ID philosophy was "Mechanism as Appearance, Appearance as Mechanism." We focused on radical simplicity and user-centricity.

  • Ergonomics Deep Dive: The handle underwent 27 iterations. Its final form perfectly matches the natural grip of the human hand, improving comfort by 60%. It features micro-textured anti-slip patterns and soft silicone inserts.

  • Integrated Handle & Lock Mechanism: We invented a 2-in-1 quick-lock system. The simple action of lifting the box triggers a gravity-assisted locking mechanism, reducing locking time by 50%. Auditory feedback (a satisfying click) confirms secure installation without visual checks. A dual redundant safety switch ensures security.

  • CMF & Aesthetic Evolution: The appearance evolved from a "Black Bat" to a "Black Agate" theme. We selected a deep space gray hue achieved through 5-axis CNC milling and micro-blasting for a sophisticated, matte finish. Precise 0.3mm micro-bevels create subtle light reflections.

  • Visual Integrity: We employed "visual weight reduction" techniques. All cables and interfaces are hidden within guided channels and behind magnetic panels, maintaining a clean, monolithic look. Indicator lights are subtle and only visible when active.

  • Material Selection: We chose a premium magnesium-aluminum alloy for the main structure for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio. The surface features a military-grade ceramic coating for extreme durability.

Mechanical Design

Our structural engineers were driven by innovation and practicality.

  • Hands-On Analysis: The deep dive from the design research phase provided the foundation for structural improvements.

  • Iterative Prototyping: We designed and prototyped 6 complete versions of the lock mechanism, each an improvement on the last, relentlessly pursuing simplicity and reliability.

  • Lightweighting & Strength: We implemented a hollowed-out skeletal design and die-cast magnesium construction, reducing the overall cabinet weight by 30% while maintaining rigidity.

  • Design for Manufacture (DFM): We collaborated closely with manufacturing teams throughout the process, refining designs for ease of assembly, cost-effectiveness, and quality.

Prototyping & Testing

  • High-Precision Prototyping: Initial prototypes were built using CNC digital precision machiningwith tolerances under 0.1mm to validate the seamless assembly concept.

  • Rigorous Validation: We conducted extensive assembly/disassembly cycle tests, vibration tests, and optical performance checks to ensure reliability and stability.

  • User Scenario Testing: Tests simulated real-world installation environments to perfect the lock mechanism's operation and user feedback.
