In a saturated TWS headphone market, LKK Design partnered with HHO to break the mold. We co-created GPods, a revolutionary pair of earbuds that combine AI-driven customizable lighting, interchangeable covers, and high-fidelity sound. This project showcases how strategic design can create a new product category and drive commercial success, with the campaign hitting 100% of its funding goal on Indiegogo in just 52 seconds.

Project: GPods - True Wireless Stereo Earbuds

HHO identified a key market shift: consumers no longer saw wireless earbuds as just a functional device but as a fashion accessory and a means of self-expression. Teaming up with LKK Design and PISEN, HHO aimed to redefine personal audio wearables by creating a product that was as unique as its users.

The project was built on ambitious goals:


• Break Aesthetic Conventions: Move beyond minimalism to create a visually distinctive and fashionable accessory.

• Enable Deep Personalization: Give users the tools to create and change their style effortlessly.

• Deliver Uncompromised Performance: Ensure premium audio quality, battery life, and connectivity.

• Achieve Market Validation: Launch a concept compelling enough to generate immediate consumer excitement.

LKK Design employed a user-centric, systematic approach to turn the vision of "personalization" into a tangible and manufacturable product.

Design Research

Our research revealed that personalization is a dynamic process. Users wanted to:

• Express their immediate mood.

• Explore and switch styles over time.

• Find a sense of community through unique product designs.

These insights led to two core features: Customizable Light Effects and Interchangeable Covers.

Industrial Design

• Design Language & Ergonomics: Inspired by the fluidity of water, we developed a soft, organic form that ensures a comfortable and secure fit.

• The Light Effect Ecosystem: We engineered a sophisticated lighting system:

◦ Built-in 6 full-color LED beads provide a rich and vibrant palette.

◦ The companion app offers 72 basic colors, allowing users to select and arrange 1-6 colors to create over 300,000 unique combinations.

◦ An integrated AI algorithm lets users capture any photo, extract its color palette, and project it as a unique light pattern on the earbuds.

Mechanical Structure Design

• Interchangeable Cover Mechanism: We developed a proprietary snap-on structure to separate the core speaker unit from the outer cover. This mechanism was tested for thousands of cycles to ensure durability and ease of use.

• Compact & Lightweight Architecture: The internal layout was meticulously designed to accommodate the LED lighting system and large drivers without compromising comfort or weight.

Prototyping & Testing

Over 10 months and 5 design validation rounds, we refined every detail.

• Acoustic Prototyping: We tuned the 10mm dynamic driver to deliver powerful bass, clear highs, and pure sound quality.

• Performance & Durability Testing: Prototypes underwent rigorous tests for:

◦ Battery Life: Achieving 5 hours on a single charge (20 hours with the case), and a minimum of 3 hours with both ANC and lighting active.

◦ Connectivity & Durability: Ensuring stable transmission with Bluetooth 5.2 and reliability in humid conditions with IPX4 waterproofing.
