The core challenge was twofold: navigating a landscape of homogeneous products and achieving rapid market entry on a limited startup budget. They needed to move from concept to mass production swiftly to seize the market window. RHWCH partnered with LKK Design, trusting our expertise to create a differentiated power charging station design that would stand out through superior user experience and a unique product identity.

The project's success hinged on achieving specific, critical objectives:

1. Establish a Unique Product Identity: Create a distinctive and memorable design to break away from the generic "metal box" aesthetic prevalent in the market.

2. Optimize User Experience: Re-engineer the entire user interaction flow—from authentication and payment to handling the charger—to be intuitive, efficient, and user-friendly.

3. Ensure Structural Reliability and Thermal Management: Innovate the cooling system to ensure high performance while meeting stringent outdoor IP ratings for rain and dust protection.

1 Design Research

We began with an in-depth analysis of the DC charging pile market, competitor products, and end-user behaviors. Our research identified key pain points: complicated operation sequences, harsh nighttime lighting, and messy cable management. These insights directly informed our design strategy and innovation priorities.

2 Industrial Design

• Branded Aesthetics: We developed a clean, technical, and robust form factor. The most iconic element is the vertical indicator light strip, which serves as a powerful and unique brand signature.

• Unified Horizontal User Interface: We completely redesigned the interaction zone. The card reader, touchscreen, and charger holster were arranged ergonomically on the same horizontal plane, allowing users to complete all actions seamlessly without bending or stretching.

3 Mechanical Structure Design

• Innovative Thermal Management: We moved away from traditional side-vent designs. Our team at LKK Design created a novel vertical thermal system with a bottom air intake and a top exhaust. This design leverages natural convection for efficient heat dissipation while maintaining a sealed, high-integrity enclosure that easily meets IP54 (or higher) standards.

• Integrated Charger Holster: We revolutionized charger storage by integrating a dedicated holster. This keeps the gun and cable neatly organized, preventing damage and tangling, thereby significantly enhancing the product's aesthetics and user experience.

4 Prototyping and Testing

A full-scale functional prototype was built for rigorous validation:

• Lighting Effect Validation: The vertical light strip was engineered with a diffuse light source to ensure a soft, non-glaring glow at night.
