Traditional acupuncture provides treatment by stimulating specific acupoints. Therefore, helping users understand where, when, and how to operate the new product more quickly and professionally became an urgent challenge for MaiZhen Technology.
Innovation Value
The MaiZhen intelligent traditional Chinese medicine device made its first public appearance through the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies platform.
The product immediately attracted significant attention and received highly positive feedback. General visitors showed strong interest, while industry professionals praised its design concept, convenience, and practicality.
The device also attracted considerable attention from international visitors.
On JD Crowdfunding, the product raised RMB 1 million, exceeding its original target by more than 1,000%.
Design Strategy
Design Insight
The project aimed to apply modern technology to traditional Chinese medical therapies.
Because conventional acupuncture treatment depends on the accurate identification and stimulation of acupoints, the new product needed to help users understand how to operate it more quickly and professionally.
The LKK Design team therefore redefined both the product and its interaction method.
Optimization and Upgrade
The input and output electrodes were integrated to reduce the number of exposed ports on the product surface.
The charging system was also integrated into the packaging. When the product is returned to its storage case, it can begin charging at the same time.
This approach supports a simpler and more integrated product-package concept.
💡 Solution
1. A Professional, Comprehensive, Safe, and Simple Experience
MaiZhen had already completed the development of its core technology, but the product still lacked a complete usage and interaction experience.
Product innovation therefore needed to begin with every stage of operation and user interaction.
From opening the packaging and removing the device to operating it and returning it to the storage case, every detail needed to meet the principles of professionalism, completeness, safety, and simplicity.
2. User Operation and Interaction Design
a. Touch-Based Control
Users can adjust the acupuncture intensity and treatment time by touching the surface of the product.
The operation is quick and simple, while illuminated indicator points display the selected values in a clear and minimal way.
b. Hydrogel Protection
The exposed hydrogel area is enclosed around its edges, and sufficient storage space is reserved for the component.
This structure helps protect the hydrogel from dust during storage.
c. Integrated Electrodes
The input and output electrodes are integrated to reduce the number of ports on the product surface.
This design improves the product’s waterproof performance and creates a cleaner and more refined user experience.
d. Charging Storage Case
The charger is integrated into the packaging.
When users return the product to its storage case, the device can begin charging immediately.
This design promotes a simple and integrated product-package concept.
