LUCKY AND EASE HOTEL SELF-SERVICE MACHINE
A Next-Generation Operational Solution for Smart Hotels
Innovation Insights

Project Background
With China’s continued economic development and social progress, people’s living standards have steadily improved.
Travel, business trips, and other mobility-related activities have gradually become more common and closely integrated into everyday life.
According to industry statistics available during the project period, China recorded approximately 4.44 billion domestic tourist visits in 2016, while the number of hotels exceeded 20,000.
Domestic tourist visits were projected to reach approximately 6.4 billion by 2020.
The rapid growth of tourism and business travel created stronger demand for efficient, convenient, and intelligent hotel services.
User Challenges
With such a large and growing customer base, improving hotel reception efficiency became increasingly important.
Hotels needed to provide guests with a faster and more convenient check-in experience while reducing waiting times at the front desk.
Driven by technological development, hotel self-service kiosks emerged as an effective solution for automated guest registration and room access.
However, a self-service kiosk intended for premium hotels needed to offer more than basic functionality.
Its appearance, materials, interaction experience, and overall visual quality also needed to match the refined atmosphere of a high-end hotel lobby.
Design Strategy

Product Strategy
The LKK Design Nanjing team worked with Pujie Technology to develop a premium hotel self-service check-in kiosk.
The design was created specifically for use in hotel lobbies and carefully balanced functional requirements with exterior aesthetics.
In addition to user experience and product appearance, the team also considered the manufacturing cost of the tooling required for future production.
This approach helped ensure that the final design was visually distinctive, technically feasible, and commercially practical.

Experience Optimization
The product uses a combination of faceted surfaces and smooth curves to create a layered and visually dynamic form.
Different sections are arranged with clear depth and spatial variation, giving the kiosk a more refined and structured appearance.
The operating area adopts a floating design that visually separates it from the main body and strengthens the product’s sense of technology.
Flashing indicator lights around the card reader and card dispenser provide intuitive guidance during operation.
These lights also remind guests to collect their cards and personal belongings before leaving the machine.
💡 Solution
1. Distinctive Materials and Visual Identity
The product combines large areas of tempered glass with selected metallic components.
This material contrast creates a highly recognizable visual identity and helps the kiosk blend naturally into premium hotel environments.
The glass surface communicates cleanliness, simplicity, and modern technology, while the metal details add a sense of durability and refined quality.
Together, these materials provide guests with a fresh and memorable self-service experience.
2. Improving Hotel Efficiency and Reducing Operating Costs
Automated check-in helps shorten guest waiting times and improves the overall efficiency of hotel reception services.
Guests can complete key check-in procedures independently, reducing their dependence on front-desk staff during busy periods.
The system also helps hotels reduce labor costs and allocate employees to more valuable service tasks.
As a result, the hotel self-service kiosk became an important operational tool for the next generation of smart hotels.
With its fashionable, technology-oriented appearance and innovative practical functions, the product received the “Best Product Innovation Award” at the 2018 HOTEL PLUS Golden Palace Awards.
