By the end of 2015, China's automotive landscape was booming with 169 million vehicles and 275 million drivers. While the car DVR market was saturated with hundreds of brands, their traditional, single-function devices failed to meet the evolving needs of drivers in the mobile internet era. Hampoo, in collaboration with LKK Design and Intel, identified a clear opportunity: to create an intelligent car DVR that seamlessly blends advanced video recording with connectivity and user safety. This is the story of the KUZO Intelligent Car DVR, a product born from powerful hardware and user-centric design.

Hampoo aimed to break the mold of the conventional car DVR market. The challenge was not just to record video but to develop a smart device that enhanced the entire driving experience. The market was ready for an upgrade in product innovation and marketing, creating a perfect entry point for a new-concept intelligent product. Partnering with LKK Design for comprehensive design and engineering services and leveraging Intel's technological foundation, the project was set to deliver a groundbreaking device.

Our in-depth analysis of the industry and user needs revealed key objectives:

• Enhanced Safety: Ensure drivers could operate the device without diverting attention from the road.

• Futuristic Design: Develop a product aesthetic that felt innovative and sophisticated.

• Compact Form Factor: Create the smallest and most compact device in the industry, comparable to a business card.

1. Design Research
Our team conducted thorough research into user behaviors and market gaps. We found that modern drivers desired more than just functionality; they wanted a connected, intuitive experience. The core insight was the need for "eyes-on-the-road" interaction, which guided our principles for a minimalist, screen-less design and innovative control systems.

2. Industrial Design
We subtly integrated the concept of a "transparent suspension" into the product's visual language. The result was a device marked by its natural beauty, thin profile, and compactness. The use of an aluminum-magnesium alloy ensured durability, complemented by an 85°C high-temperature resistant design and anti-electromagnetic interference features. The absence of a screen made the device lighter and safer by reducing visual clutter and potential distractions.

3. Mechanical Structure Design
Working closely with the hardware R&D team, we meticulously engineered the internal stack to maximize space efficiency. This collaboration was crucial in achieving the product's incredibly compact, card-like size, making it the smallest in its category at the time. A key innovation was the Bluetooth button. Wrapped in an active steel sheet and rubber case, it can be installed on various steering wheels. Its ergonomic design provides Quick Access functions like one-touch capture, one-touch sharing, music control, and walkie-talkie coordination, all operable without the driver looking away.

4. Prototyping and Testing
Through rapid prototyping and multiple iterative testing cycles, we validated the product's structural integrity, heat dissipation, electromagnetic compatibility, and overall user experience. This rigorous process ensured the final design was not only aesthetically pleasing but also robust and reliable for real-world driving conditions.

The first-generation KUZO Intelligent Car DVR, developed by LKK Design for Hampoo, successfully launched to market acclaim. It was showcased at major tech exhibitions, earning a high reputation within the industry for its innovation. The KUZO DVR set a new benchmark in the market, both in its avant-garde design and its intelligent feature set. It stands as a testament to how user-centric design and technical excellence can create a product that improves travel experience, meets safety needs, and offers outstanding overall value.
