Wukong Travel Corporate IP Character Design
Creating a Trend-Driven IP Character for Generation Z
Innovation Insights

Project Background
The project focused on upgrading Wukong Travel’s corporate IP and creating a more distinctive, trend-oriented character that reflects the personality and aesthetic preferences of Generation Z.
By developing a fashionable and recognizable IP image, the brand aimed to attract younger users, strengthen emotional connections, and establish a more youthful brand identity.
User Insight
The design team studied the lifestyles, interests, attitudes, and visual preferences of younger consumers.
The goal was to create an IP character that could emotionally connect with them and naturally become part of their daily lives.
By developing different character traits, visual expressions, and recognizable brand symbols, the IP could become a familiar brand asset among young consumers.
The strategy focused on identifying young people’s interests, entering their cultural world, and using the IP to build a closer and more meaningful relationship between the brand and its audience.
Design Strategy

IP Character Development
The IP design combined current trends in character personalization with the behavioral and emotional characteristics of the target users.
A cute yet slightly fierce facial expression was introduced to give the character a stronger sense of individuality and make it stand apart from conventional Wukong images.
The character reflects a rebellious and independent spirit. It represents courage, determination, confidence, and the willingness to challenge traditional expectations.

Visual Optimization and Upgrade
The design breaks away from the traditional representation of the golden headband and eyebrows commonly associated with Sun Wukong.
These elements were artistically redesigned and integrated together to form a more distinctive visual symbol.
This treatment strengthens the character’s recognition while clearly differentiating it from widely used traditional Wukong images.
💡 Solution
1. A Transformable Backpack Full of Possibilities
Sun Wukong is famous for his seventy-two transformations and limitless abilities.
Inspired by this characteristic, the character’s backpack can transform into many different forms.
It also contains a wide range of magical tools and unexpected items, similar to the imaginative storage pocket associated with Doraemon.
This feature enriches the character story and creates more possibilities for future content, products, and brand applications.
2. Blending Traditional Culture with Contemporary Fashion
The overall design approach introduces innovation within tradition and transforms traditional cultural elements into a more fashionable and contemporary expression.
The primary color palette is based on Chinese red and Wukong Travel’s existing brand colors.
The tones were refined to create a more composed, confident, and premium visual impression.
The character’s tiger-patterned shorts were inspired by the traditional tiger-skin garment worn by Sun Wukong in film and television adaptations.
This familiar cultural element was redesigned as modern clothing, giving the character a stronger connection to contemporary youth fashion while retaining its traditional identity.
