Project Background

This portable welding machine was designed by the LKK Design team for Hugong Group.

Unlike traditional industrial equipment with a bulky, rigid, and highly mechanical appearance, the product adopts a more modern, lightweight, and dynamic design language.

The manufacturing process combines sheet metal components with injection-molded parts made in their original material colors.

This approach allows the product housing to be offered in different colors without requiring an additional painting process.

By eliminating secondary surface coating, the design reduces material consumption and manufacturing procedures while also lowering the environmental impact associated with paint processing.

Innovation Value

The product has received the China Good Design Award and the Innovation Design Silver Award at the China International Industry Fair.

These awards recognize its achievements in industrial design, lightweight construction, manufacturing feasibility, user experience, and environmental responsibility.

The product adopts a lightweight housing design that reduces the amount of enclosure material while effectively controlling the machine’s overall weight.

The lighter structure reduces packaging requirements, improves transportation efficiency, and makes the welding machine easier for users to carry between different working locations.

The complete machine was also designed for fast and convenient assembly.

Dedicated maintenance access points were reserved in advance, allowing technicians to inspect, repair, and replace internal components more efficiently.

Lightweight and Portable Structure

The integrated structure balances industrial strength with improved portability.

By optimizing the enclosure, internal component arrangement, and assembly method, the design reduces unnecessary structural weight without compromising the machine’s durability or operating stability.

This makes the welding machine more suitable for workshops, construction sites, outdoor maintenance, and other industrial environments that require frequent movement.

Protection and Performance Upgrade

The main control board incorporates enhanced resistance to acidic, alkaline, and other corrosive environments.

An isolated airflow system helps protect sensitive electronic components from dust, moisture, and contaminants during operation.

Key internal components also receive professional waterproofing and dustproofing treatment.

Together, these improvements enable the machine to achieve an IP23S protection rating.

The housing can effectively prevent rainwater from splashing into the interior, making the welding machine particularly suitable for operation in demanding outdoor and industrial conditions.

💡 Solution

1. A New Product Identity for Hugong

Opposing double-C design elements were introduced to reconstruct Hugong’s product identity system.

This distinctive visual feature moves away from the rigid, box-shaped appearance of the company’s earlier industrial products.

The new form communicates technology, movement, strength, and contemporary industrial character.

By applying the design language consistently across the housing, the product establishes a more recognizable brand identity and provides a visual foundation for the future development of Hugong’s product family.

2. Environmentally Responsible Materials and Improved Visibility

The product combines sheet metal with injection-molded components made in their original colors.

Brightly colored plastic housing parts reduce the heavy and visually monotonous impression commonly associated with conventional industrial machinery.

Because the plastic components do not require additional painting, the production process saves materials, reduces manufacturing steps, and lowers environmental pollution.

The vivid housing color also improves product visibility during indoor and outdoor operation.

This provides a practical safety-warning function, making it easier for workers to identify the equipment in busy workshops, construction areas, and other complex industrial environments.
