Providing Comprehensive Hospital Pharmacy Solutions for China’s Medication Management Needs
Innovation Insights

Project Background
Reach is committed to providing comprehensive hospital pharmacy solutions tailored to China’s medication management practices and healthcare environment.
As a leading smart pharmacy brand, Shenzhen Reach is currently the only company in this field in China with a complete portfolio of independently developed core technologies and fully proprietary intellectual property rights.
Its automated pharmacy equipment helps hospitals improve medication dispensing efficiency, reduce manual workload, enhance prescription accuracy, and establish more standardized pharmaceutical management processes.
User Requirements
The client commissioned LKK Design to improve the product design of its automated tablet dispensing machine.
As an upgrade project based on an existing product, the design team conducted detailed analysis and maintained close communication with the client during the early development stage.
This process enabled the team to understand the client’s functional, visual, structural, and operational requirements clearly.
The redesigned machine needed to improve usability and visual quality while maintaining system reliability, manufacturing feasibility, and compatibility with the client’s existing smart pharmacy equipment.
Design Strategy

User Strategy
The product was designed to create a lighter and more visually comfortable impression than conventional large-scale pharmacy equipment.
Its appearance continues the recognizable design characteristics of Reach’s existing product family, helping maintain a consistent brand identity across different medical devices.
A combination of different materials was used to enrich the visual details, improve perceived quality, and distinguish the machine’s functional areas.
The overall design balances medical professionalism, intelligent technology, operational clarity, and a clean hospital aesthetic.

Experience Optimization
When an operator selects a medication cassette for refilling, the corresponding indicator light illuminates to guide the user quickly to the correct location.
During medication dispensing, the same indicator system alerts the operator when a cassette is running low or becomes empty.
In both situations, the lighting guidance helps users identify the correct cassette immediately and complete the medication replenishment process efficiently.
This reduces unnecessary searching, shortens maintenance time, and lowers the risk of refilling the wrong cassette.
💡 Solution
1. Expandable Medication Cassette Configuration
The quantity and arrangement of medication cassettes use an expandable modular system.
Small and medium-sized hospitals, as well as specialist hospitals, can use the inner cassette configuration to meet their normal dispensing requirements.
For large hospitals with greater medication demand, additional cassette modules can be installed on both sides of the machine.
The system also includes 36 specially shaped medication compartments for tablets or packages that cannot be accommodated in standard cassettes.
This flexible structure allows the machine to adapt to hospitals of different sizes, medication categories, prescription volumes, and operational requirements.
2. Automated Unit-Dose Medication Packaging
The machine automatically receives and executes medication orders transmitted by the hospital information system.
It measures and packages the prescribed single-dose medication for each inpatient according to the physician’s instructions.
Each medication dose is sealed in an individual bag to reduce contamination and improve medication management.
The machine also prints essential information directly on the medication bag, including the patient’s identification details, medication name, quantity, and scheduled administration time.
By integrating prescription data, automated tablet dispensing, unit-dose packaging, indicator guidance, and medication information printing, the machine supports a more standardized hospital pharmacy workflow.
It helps improve prescription-processing efficiency, medication traceability, and dispensing accuracy.
The system also reduces the burden on pharmacy staff and allows hospitals to manage large volumes of inpatient medication more safely and consistently.
Through flexible expansion and intelligent operation, the product can meet the needs of specialist hospitals, regional medical institutions, and large general hospitals.Meta Boxes
Use up and down arrow keys to resize the meta box pane.
This automated process helps pharmacists and nursing staff verify medications more efficiently while reducing repetitive manual work and potential dispensing errors.
