Client and Project Background

Client and Project Background

HiAR is a leading pioneer in the Augmented Reality (AR) field, dedicated to developing high-performance, lightweight AR smart devices. Their vision for the HiAR G100 AR glasses was to break away from the market's perception of traditional AR equipment as bulky and inconvenient, aiming to create a consumer-grade AR glasses that combined technological sophistication with wearability and comfort.

LKK Design was entrusted by HiAR to take full responsibility for the product design and development of the HiAR G100. The project goal was clear: to establish a "light-weight wearable AR glasses" as the core design concept and create a product with a globally competitive edge in form, structure, and performance.

Requirements and Goals

Requirements and Goals

  • Lightweight and Comfortable Wear: To overcome the limitations of traditional AR devices, which are often large and overly immersive, focusing instead on the convenient experience of everyday users.

  • Innovative Structure and Ergonomic Design: To incorporate features like folding arms, an elastic clip design, and an adjustable headband for a "personal tailor" fit.

  • High-Performance Configuration: To be the world's first AR glasses integrating the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 processor with 4GB dual-channel memory, ensuring powerful computing and graphics processing capabilities.

  • Aesthetic and Craftsmanship Breakthrough: To overcome modeling constraints and create a visually "seamless" integrated appearance, enhancing the product's affinity and premium feel.

Solution & Design Process

Solution & Design Process

 Design Research
LKK Design's analysis of existing AR products on the market identified common issues: bulky designs, uncomfortable wear, and visually intrusive aesthetics. Adopting a human-centered design approach, we focused on the user experience and proposed three core design principles: "Lightweight, Personalized, and Seamless," ensuring the product's leadership in both visual appeal and functionality.

 Industrial Design
We developed an introverted and gentle frame outline and CMF (Color, Material, Finishing) solution. The flowing lines, the slightly expanded "Flowing Flex" design, and the seamless integration of the shading lens, mainboard shell, and power unit gave the product a soft yet tech-savvy visual language. The surface-textured magnalium frame further enhanced skin affinity and product quality.

 Mechanical Structure Design
In structural design, we optimized and integrated over 120 design details, overcoming numerous production line technical challenges:

  • Integrated U-Shaped Frame: Enhanced structural strength and neatness while ensuring integrity and uniformity.

  • Adjustable Headband and Elastic Clamping Bracket: Achieved a balanced and comfortable wearing experience for different head shapes and usage scenarios.

  • Adjustable Optical Lens System: Supported personalized adjustment of pupil distance and strength, catering to the visual needs of different users.

3 Prototyping and Testing
Throughout the 24-month R&D cycle, we conducted multiple rounds of prototyping and testing to refine product details and minimize production costs and manufacturing risks. From durability tests for the folding arms to performance verification of the camera's focus (0.1-second PDAF phase focus), every design aspect was rigorously validated to meet mass production standards and user experience requirements.

Delivered Value

Delivered Value
