Partnering with the LKK Rococo design team, GE sought to thoroughly re-engineer the digital chest X-ray stand. The objective was to develop an innovative design solution that was highly user-friendly and met stringent product requirements. This collaboration aimed to validate a new vertical structure, implement a fly-by-wire control system to reduce clutter, and revolutionize the overall user experience.

The industrial design of the GE Chest X-ray Stand is defined by its cohesive and consistent oval-shaped exterior, lending the product a sleek, slim, and approachable profile.

Key Design Innovations:

1. Patient-Centric Ergonomics: The LKK team meticulously designed the handle and button positions for both patient comfort and error prevention. The handle is angled relative to the detector, and the housing features a bevel to reduce pressure on the patient's arm. Integrated chin rests, arm rests, and a top grip handle significantly enhance patient comfort and stability during examinations.

2. Intuitive Safety and Guidance: The horizontal drive's protective cover is finished in distinctive GE blue, visually signaling safe zones and reassuring patients. The dedicated arm rest makes it easier for technologists to guide patients into the correct position, eliminating anxiety and uncertainty about how to cooperate.

3. Enhanced Technologist Efficiency: The design prioritizes ease of use for medical staff. It combines advanced performance with a reversible geometric design, simplifying operation. The stand supports multiple modes, including horizontal tilt, table-style, and low-position imaging. Doctors can perform operations via the screen, handle, or manual movement. Multiple rotation options—vertical, horizontal (via a bottom button), and flip—are supported by a recessed control knob, ensuring smooth and comfortable detector movement.
