Identifying this core market need, our client, HHOLOVE, aimed to launch a revolutionary product—the O Sitter, the world's first AI smart companion robot designed specifically for cats.
The O Sitter is more than an automatic feeder; it is a comprehensive smart pet care solution that integrates feeding and babysitting functions. Its mission is to alleviate stress for pet owners and create a worry-free environment for pets, ensuring they are cared for even when their owners are away.
HHOLOVE set clear and ambitious objectives for the O Sitter:
Intelligent Feeding System: Users must be able to easily set feeding schedules and portion sizes via a mobile app. The robot must automatically dispense food from the storage bin into the bowl at preset times. A built-in weight sensor was required to detect low food levels and remind owners to replenish supplies promptly.
Comprehensive Babysitting Functionality: The robot needed to integrate a camera and multiple sensors to monitor the cat's behavior and health in real-time. Users should be able to check their pet's status—whether eating, sleeping, or playing—via the app. An integrated laser pointer was also essential to engage the cat and keep it active.
User-Centric Experience: The product design had to be intuitive and easy to use, seamlessly blending advanced technology with practical application. The goal was to provide pet owners with information and tools for a more relaxed and convenient pet care experience.
Design Research
We began with in-depth market research and user interviews to understand pet owners' routines, pain points, and expectations for smart products. We also studied feline behavior to ensure the design was "feline-friendly," making the robot a welcomed companion rather than a cold, intrusive machine.
Industrial Design
Our designers focused on creating an aesthetic that balanced tech sophistication with warmth. We developed a form with clean lines, a soft color palette, and a compact footprint, ensuring the O Sitter would blend harmoniously into modern home environments. The layout of the food bin, bowl, camera, and laser emitter was meticulously planned for optimal functionality and visual appeal.
Mechanical Structure Design
Our mechanical engineering team translated the design concept into a functional physical structure. We engineered a precise dispensing mechanism to ensure accurate and reliable food delivery every time. The structural design prioritized stability and durability, while also allowing for easy disassembly and cleaning to maintain pet food hygiene.
Electronic Design
Hardware: We selected high-performance, low-power processors and integrated a weight sensor, HD camera, laser module, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth communication modules. The PCB layout was optimized for stable operation and electromagnetic compatibility.
Firmware: Custom firmware was developed to orchestrate all hardware components, including motor control, sensor data acquisition, and command execution. It was meticulously coded for rapid response and reliable performance.
Software: We designed and developed an intuitive mobile app with a simple user interface. It allows users to configure all settings, view live footage, and monitor their pet's status. Cloud services handle data storage and push notifications.
Prototyping and Testing
Multiple functional prototypes were built and subjected to rigorous testing. This included tests for dispensing accuracy, sensor sensitivity, app connectivity stability, long-term reliability, and observing cat interactions with the device. Mold Development and Mass Production
Upon design finalization, we assisted the client in developing high-precision molds. We advised on packaging design to ensure product safety during transportation and assisted in planning supply chain and logistics strategies, enabling the efficient and smooth delivery of the O Sitter to consumers worldwide.
